Trans chat that starts with respect
A shared conversation can be the beginning of friendship, support or a date.
Butterfly brings trans adults and people open to dating them together. The live chat offers a place to talk with others; private messages let two people get to know each other directly. You can be interested without rushing someone.
Join the live conversation
The Butterfly live chat lets members talk with people around the world. You can open a participant’s profile and, if there is mutual interest, move towards a private conversation. Community chat is not professional counselling or an emergency support service.
Talk one to one
Private messaging lets you talk and share pictures without immediately swapping personal contact details. An upgrade is needed for unlimited one-to-one messages. Check the account’s current allowances and prices in the service.
Understand the upgradeNot sure what to say? Start with a Flutter
Press the butterfly icon on someone’s profile to send a Flutter. If you write a message instead, choose something specific from their interests. “You mentioned walking—do you have a favourite weekend route?” gives them a conversation to respond to.
A second useful question is what sort of connection they are looking for. Ask without assuming that being trans makes someone interested in casual sex or a particular relationship.
Language tools that explain, not just hide
Butterfly’s private chat detects recognised offensive terms, strikes them out and adds replacement wording. A notice in the message explains that it contained an offensive term and has been edited. See the word-replacement demonstration.
A filter cannot understand every intention or catch every harmful message. Block and report someone who is abusive or keeps ignoring your boundaries. You do not have to stay to educate them.
Keep an early conversation comfortable
- Use the name and pronouns the person uses.
- Ask about interests before personal or intimate details.
- Do not send sexual pictures or ask for them without agreement.
- Accept a slow reply or no reply. Messages are invitations, not obligations.
- Keep your address, workplace and financial information private.
“Anonymous trans chat” can mean limiting identifying information, but no conversation is guaranteed to be unrecorded. Read Butterfly’s privacy guide before sharing anything sensitive.
